Module 1 of 2
What sextortion is
Sextortion is when someone threatens to share private images of you unless you send money, more images, or do what they say. It can happen to anyone, and it is a crime.
How it often starts
- Someone you don't know well in real life contacts you on social media, a game, or a messaging app.
- They may pretend to be your age and move fast to flirting.
- They pressure you to send photos, or claim they already have images. Sometimes the images are faked with AI.
- Then the threats start, often with a short deadline.
The most important thing to know
If this happens, it is not your fault. The person threatening you is the one breaking the law. You are not in trouble for asking for help.
