Sextortion: Know What to Do

Module 2 of 2

What to do right away

If someone is threatening you:

  • Stop responding. Don't send money or anything else. Paying usually leads to more demands, not less.
  • Save evidence: take screenshots of messages, usernames, and profiles before you block.
  • Block and report the account on the app or site.
  • Tell a trusted adult: a parent, relative, teacher, counselor, or tribal police.
  • Report it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's CyberTipline at report.cybertip.org or 1-800-843-5678, and to the FBI at tips.fbi.gov.
  • If images of you were taken when you were under 18, NCMEC's free Take It Down service (takeitdown.ncmec.org) can help get them removed from many sites.

If you are feeling overwhelmed or thinking about hurting yourself, call or text 988 any time. You matter, and this can be fixed.
