Module 2 of 5

Passwords, multi-factor, and accounts

Most break-ins start with a stolen or guessed password. Strong account security stops most attacks.

Good habits

  • Use long passphrases, like four or more random words, instead of short complex passwords.
  • Never reuse a password on two sites. If one site leaks, the other stays safe.
  • Use a password manager to create and remember unique passwords.
  • Turn on multi-factor authentication (MFA). An authenticator app or security key is stronger than a text message code.
  • Give people only the access they need for their job. This is called least privilege.
