Module 2 of 2

Red flags and what to do

Almost every scam has the same warning signs.

Red flags

  • Pressure to act fast or keep it secret.
  • Payment by gift card, wire transfer, cryptocurrency, or payment apps to strangers.
  • Requests for passwords, codes, or Social Security numbers.
  • Offers that seem too good to be true.

What to do

  • Stop. Don't pay, click, or share anything.
  • Verify by contacting the organization using a number or website you already know is real.
  • Talk to someone you trust.
  • Report scams at reportfraud.ftc.gov, and tell your tribal office if the scam uses the nation's name.
  • If you already paid, contact your bank right away.
